Chapter Ten

Tre had used the rope-like belt from her robe to secure the butt plug inside her. A length of fabric pressed against her crotch. Part of the belt circled her hips, riding low on her belly and between her ass cheeks. Every step she took reinforced how much effort it would take to free herself. Her walk resembled a waddle, but so much bulk was against her crotch she couldn’t help it.

He’d handed her a robe a few inches longer than her night shirt, the lightweight garment hiding her scantily-clad state. Her sister-in-law was responsible for the excuse for slippers. Pink and overly-decorated with tufts of fabric, they wouldn’t hold up if she tried to run.

She wouldn’t attempt an escape and her captor obviously knew it because he’d felt no need to restrain her beyond the well-anchored plug.

After grabbing her laptop and cell and locking the door behind them, he kept her close via a hand on her shoulder. She didn’t react to the contact, not even when he slid her hand around his waist and squeezed indicating he expected her to keep it there. Her system was on overdrive, becoming more and more aware of his presence. She couldn’t trust her body, particularly when their hips bumped—which happened a lot.

“We’re lovers,” he whispered. “A couple out for a stroll before—“

“No we aren’t. No one here has seen me with a man.”

“They are now. They’ll wonder who I am and what about me appeals to you.”

Nothing.

Maybe everything.

She kept her gaze locked on the crushed gravel walkway that led to the parking area. Night had arrived, and the complex was quiet. She bemoaned the fact that it was a weeknight with most residents behind closed drapes. No one cared about her just as she hadn’t concerned herself with her neighbors. If she disappeared, maybe no one would question what had happened to the young, quiet woman on the second floor.

Her brothers would wonder, start to worry. So would her contacts at San Diego Heart, a handful of girlfriends, and those who read her pieces. She wouldn’t fade from the world’s consciousness after all. She was only thinking like that because tonight she had little say about her life.

Would Tre give a damn if she disappeared?

The question slipped into her only to fade when he indicated the vehicle he wanted her to head toward. Matching his pace, she pondered how he’d react if he didn’t know what had happened to her.

The man deserved to worry—and he would, wouldn’t he?

Only what would cause her to drop into a bottomless pit?

The mafia.

She shivered and stumbled.

“What is it?” He helped her straighten.

“Nothing. I just—nothing.”

“Thinking too much?”

“Something like that.”

She waited while he studied the parking lot then again trudged beside him. He drove a full size pickup, four-wheel drive. No tricked out sports car for him and not much in the way of bells and whistles. Hoisting herself into the passenger’s seat increased her awareness of the butt plug. She wasn’t sure whether she smelled her arousal or imagined she did.
